Victoria’s chapter explores the work of Hannah Höch, the European CoBrA group and Paula Rego in their visual treatment of children and pets as savage satire and political commentary. Other essays analyse legal discourses, literature for children and adults, migration narratives and language socialization to discuss how notions of nationalism, race, gender, heteronormativity, and speciesism shape cultural constructions of children and pets. This will be an important volume for scholars of animal studies, childhood studies, children’s literature, cultural studies, political theory, education, art history, and sociology.
